Seventeen individuals were hospitalized following a hazardous ammonia gas leak at a food processing unit in Bhandgaon, Pune, earlier today. The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 AM at the facility located on the outskirts of the city.
According to local authorities, the leak was caused by a malfunction in one of the unit’s ammonia refrigeration systems. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, where they found several workers and nearby residents exhibiting symptoms of exposure, including respiratory distress and nausea.
The affected individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving treatment. The condition of most patients is reportedly stable, though some are being closely monitored for complications.
Firefighters and hazardous materials teams quickly contained the leak, and the affected area has been evacuated as a precaution. The Pune Municipal Corporation has initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the equipment failure and to assess any potential violations of safety regulations.
