ICAR-CIFT is the only national institute under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research that is dedicated to research and extension activities in fisheries harvest and post harvest sectors. The impact of ICAR-CIFT on the development of fishing, seafood processing, seafood safety and quality control in India is well recognised. The Institute plays an important role in facilitating mechanisation and modernisation of fishing fleet and introduction of durable synthetic fishing gear materials and improved gear designs and practices in Indian fisheries.
The Institute has been instrumental in modernising the fish processing sector in the country and continues to support the industry through need based research and technology interventions viz., improved handling, chilling, freezing, thermal processing, improved methods of fish curing and drying, fish based value added products, fish waste utilisation and innovative packaging; sanitary and hygienic standards based on microbiological and biochemical quality parameters and HACCP.
The ICAR – Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) set up in 1957 is the only national center in the country where research in all disciplines relating to fishing and fish processing is undertaken. The institute started functioning at Cochin in 1957. Research centers function at Veraval (Gujarat), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and Mumbai (Maharashtra).
Activities and research programmes of the division are aimed at conducting research in the fields of fishing craft and gear materials, fishing gear technology, materials protection and pollution in coastal aquaculture environment, upgrade and maintain expertise within these fields and to disseminate proven technologies and expertise through publications, training and consultancy.
‘KARYASHALA’ is aimed to provide hands -on experience to the students primarily from universities, colleges, private academic institutions and newly established institutes in handling / troubleshooting of high end scientific instruments and such skill development on themes required for quality and cutting edge research work.
ICAR-CIFT has gained recognition for the production of bioactive and pharmaceutical compounds from aquatic resources and mangroves. The Institute has developed several instruments and machineries for meeting specific needs of fishing and fish processing sectors. Institute has been recognized as a prestigious National Referral Laboratory and National Reference Laboratory by the Government of India. ICAR-CIFT has received award for the best Institute thrice in the ICAR system.
ELIGIBILITY
PG / PhD pursuing students in any discipline of Fisheries, Food Technology, Food Science, Post Harvest Technology, Food Engineering, Agricultural Engineering / Packaging Technology or any other related subjects.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

▪ To inform students about different schemes available to support entrepreneurship activities.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATION
The participants will be reimbursed to and fro travel fares by shortest rail (sleeper)/ bus route as per SERB guidelines on the production of valid travel documents. Outstation participants will be provided free boarding and lodging at the institute’s hostel
