Fortify Health has a vision for a healthier world where everyone has the micronutrients they need to survive and thrive. We work toward this by enabling access to micronutrient-rich wheat flour to reduce and prevent iron deficiency anaemia. We currently work in many regions across India but are planning to expand to new regions in the coming years.
Fortify Health operates through three work streams:
- Open Market Support: We support millers to cost-neutrally fortify chakki atta in the open market. Details of the regions we operate in and our beneficiaries can be found here.
- Government Partnership Support: We work with governments in India to mainstream wheat flour fortification through social safety net programs
- Evidence Generation: We conduct monitoring and evaluation of activities to inform the public about the value of food fortification

Job Description:
- Team: Monitoring, Evaluation and Research
- Contractor Fee: If at Senior Officer Level: INR 86,714 per month. If at Officer level: INR 74,326 per month (non-negotiable).
- Location: Pan-India (with preference for Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab)
- Terms of employment: Contract for one year, renewal by mutual agreement

About the role:
The (Senior) Quality Officer will collaborate with flour mills to ensure that the atta they produce is adequately fortified and adheres to regulatory standards. As part of their role, the (Senior) Quality Officer will collect and analyse data, and provide guidance and advice to millers. Therefore, the work the (Senior) Quality Officer does is key to our ability to provide our beneficiaries with a high quality product that meets all safety standards. They will closely work with other teams across Fortify Health and manage the work of more junior team members to ensure sub-team success.
The (Senior) Quality Officer will report to Fortify Health’s Quality Systems Manager.
Responsibilities and activities
The Quality Officer will be responsible for the following:
- Sampling and data gathering:
- Performing rapid quantitative iron testing in fortified wheat flour (using iCheck Iron, no prior experience of using iCheck Iron required) for all partner mills
- Conducting quality control of fortification premix, maintaining the relevant QC documents, helping the operations team for vendor quality audits
- Periodically collecting data from mills and analyze it to give actionable insights to the program team to improve fortification operations in the mills
- Manage communication and plan fieldwork between all stakeholders involved in the quality assurance process.
- Support the Program team in launching new mills and support mill operations, including installation/calibration/ troubleshooting of micro feeders
Data analysis and reporting
- Analyzing the data, interpreting the results and communicating the outcomes to respective team members including via internal reporting.
- Coordinating with external testing laboratory partners for testing of the samples and reports
Supporting mid and long-term research activities:
- Creating datasets and reports for internal decision making and external stakeholders like funders.
- Support exploration of future opportunities for study design and execution.
Additional Responsibilities and activities:
In addition to the above, the Senior Quality Officer will be responsible for the following:
Developing and improving protocols:
- Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to enhance the capacity of staff and stakeholders in quality assurance.
- Support the team to identify and implement solutions to address quality challenges and enhance the overall effectiveness of fortification efforts.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve SOPs for quality control and assurance process
Team collaboration:
- Oversee and manage the quality assurance and control process, ensuring that all relevant QC documents are maintained accurately.
- Manage Junior Quality Officers and Quality Officers, delegating tasks appropriately and supporting their career development.
- Support in training and hiring new team members.

Candidate profile:
Requirements
- Fluency in both English and Hindi
- Expertise:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food technology, milling engineering, or a related field
- Substantial experience in quality assurance and control, preferably in the food industry or public health sector.
- In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations, quality standards, and best practices.
- Execution:
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Collaboration:
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Communication:
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) to relay important quality assurance findings in an accessible way
- Problem-solving:
- Strong creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to efficiently learn and execute best practices where they exist and to innovate where they do not
