The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Imphal on March 17, 2025, between the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Manipur, and Patanjali Foods Limited. This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing self-sufficiency in edible oil production and boosting the state’s agricultural economy.
Key Highlights of the Agreement
- Phased Expansion:
- In the first year, Patanjali Foods will initiate oil palm plantation operations covering approximately 2,700 hectares of land, starting from April 1, 2025.
- The initial phase will target Imphal East, Thoubal, and Kakching districts, while Bishnupur will be included in the second phase.
- Long-Term Plan:
- During the fiscal year 2024-25, the company aims to cover 10,000 hectares of oil palm plantations across the Northeast.
- By 2025-26, the cultivated area is expected to expand to 20,000 hectares.
Boosting Agriculture and Economy

Patanjali’s Growing Presence in the Northeast
With this agreement, Patanjali Foods extends its oil palm cultivation footprint to six Northeastern states, further strengthening its commitment to the NMEO-OP initiative. The company’s large-scale plantation plans align with the Government of India’s mission to achieve self-reliance in edible oil production and reduce the country’s import dependency.
Conclusion
The Manipur-Patanjali partnership marks a major step toward agricultural transformation in the region. By promoting oil palm cultivation, the initiative is set to enhance farmers’ income, strengthen local economies, and contribute to India’s edible oil self-sufficiency goals.
