In a proactive step toward ensuring food safety, the Food Safety Administration in Chandigarh recently conducted an inspection in the local fruit market. The inspection was carried out using the Mobile Food Testing Laboratory, a state-of-the-art unit designed for on-the-spot testing of food samples.
During the visit, the team of Food Safety Officers focused their attention on watermelons — a fruit often consumed in large quantities during the summer. The officers conducted rapid tests to check for artificial color adulteration, a common malpractice aimed at enhancing the fruit’s visual appeal.
Artificial coloring agents, when used illegally, pose serious health risks to consumers. The on-site testing allowed the team to immediately identify any non-compliant samples and take appropriate action.
This inspection is part of an ongoing effort by the administration to monitor food quality in local markets and promote public health awareness. Authorities have urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected food adulteration to the nearest food safety department.
By utilizing mobile laboratories, the Food Safety Department continues to strengthen its commitment to delivering safe and unadulterated food to the public.
