Associate Professors/Guest faculties – Sambalpur University

The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on 10th December, 1966 to fulfill long cherished dream of the people of Western Odisha for establishment of a University. The University started functioning from 1st January, 1967 with Prof.Parsuram Mishra as the first Vice-Chancellor. The University was inaugurated on 4th January, 1967 by Hon’ble Chancellor A.N.Khosla. The University started functioning in 1967 in a rented private building at Dhanupali, Sambalpur and in Government building at Ainthapali, Sambalpur from 1968 – 72. In the year 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla.

Our primary purpose is to encourage alumni, students, and faculty to communicate with one another. The territorial jurisdiction of the University covers 6 districts of the state of Odisha namely Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh and Athamallik Sub-Division of Angul District.

The P.G. Departments of sambalpur university offers Doctoral and Post-Doctoral research facility for NET/JRF/GATE students. Sambalpur University offers a limited numbers of scholarships for pursuing research work in various field of advance research. Some of the P.G. Depts have been recognized as center of EXCELLENCE and receive special grants for conducting advance level research. Some DRS projects are also being run by various P.G. Depts. Apart from this the university faculties have their own research projects funded by National and International agencies and the students are admitted as research fellow in such schemes.

For Engagement of retired Professors/ retired Associate Professors/Guest faculties (Assistant Professor). Applications (in prescribed Google form, available in Sambalpur University website: www.suniv.ac.in) are invited from 
eligible candidates to fill up vacancies against the sanctioned posts permitted vide Order No. 4477/HE dt.01.02.2024 and additional faculties permitted vide Order No. 4478/HE dt.01.02.2024.

  1. Category of faculties:
    i. The vacancy of Professor and Associate Professor will be filled up by retired Professors/ retired Associate Professor only.
    ii. The vacancy of Assistant Professor will be filled up by way of engagement of guest faculties.
    iii. The retired faculties could be from any Govt, aided or private higher education institution of the Country
    possessing appropriate qualification.
  2. Educational Qualifications: As per UGC Guidelines, 2018
  3. Tenure of engagement:
    a. The tenure of engagement of faculties under this arrangement shall be for a maximum period of 1 year at a
    time or till the vacancy is filled in regular manner whichever is earlier.
    b. The continuation of engagement shall be subject to satisfactory performance during the quarterly review.
    c. The engaged Retired faculties may continue with the teaching till they attain 70 years of age, subject to
    periodical review of satisfactory performance.
    d. This arrangement shall be purely temporary in nature and there should not be any regular/contractual/ad-
    hoc appointment against this arrangement under any circumstances and in any manner.
  4. Honorarium:
    Honorarium shall be paid to faculties under this arrangement as per the details given below:

Duties and Responsibilities of engaged faculties:

  • The faculties engaged under this arrangement shall have the following additional duties and responsibilities, over and above as mentioned
    against work assignment at point 5 above:
  • Academic work like teaching courses, conducting examination and research guidance. They will be entitled to guide research projects of
    UG and PG students. However, in case of research projects or Guiding Ph.D. they will be eligible to become Co guides depending on their
    qualifications and experience.
  • Conducting research and/or taking up sponsored research projects as per the rules and regulations of the funding agency.
  • Launching continuing education program in new and emerging areas.
  • Organizing/attending National/ International Conferences/ Seminars / Symposia / Workshops with a co organizer from the University/
    college but without any financial commitment from the University.
  • Undertaking knowledge-based advisory/ consultancy assignments in accordance with the University guidelines.
  • Accepting invitations and delivering guest lectures at other institutions.
  • Participation in academic/research Committees at the University and elsewhere, when required.
  • However, they shall not be eligible for holding administrative or financial responsibilities.

The selection of candidates for recruitment to the posts of Professor/Associate Professor/Guest Faculty etc. shall be
made on the basis of evaluations as under:

I.General Career (i.e. HSC, Intermediate, Degree etc.): 30 Marks
II.Research Degree (i.e. M.Phill, PhD etc.): 20 Marks
III.Teaching Experience : 10 Marks Maximum
(only for the posts of Professor and Associate Professor) P.G. Teaching : 01 for each completed year
Honours Teaching : 0.75 for each completed year
Graduate Teaching : 0.5 for each completed year

IV.Ph. D Guidance : 05 Marks Maximum
(only for the posts of Professor and Associate Professor) 01 mark for each PhD award
V.Demo Class : 15 Marks Maximum
(only for the posts of Guest Faculty)
VI.Research Publication : 15 Marks
(10 marks for International Journals
05 marks for National Journals)

VII.Viva-Voce : 20 Marks
b. The duration of Demo Class will be of 10 – 15 minutes.
c. The syllabus for the demo class will be as per the P.G. syllabus of the University.
d. The detailed subject wise syllabus is available in the University website.
e. The list of candidates shall be prepared in order of merit on the basis of the above parameters, which shall be equal
to twice the no. of advertised vacancies and it will be valid for one year from the date of publication of result.

Addendum/corrigendum, if any, shall be posted only on the University website.
