The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. It is statutory body for laying down science based standards for articles of food and regulating manufacturing, processing, distribution, sale and import .
Food Analyst Examination:FSSAI conducts Food Analyst Examination (FAE) to increase the pool of qualified Food Analysts and to augment human resource requirement of the primary/referral laboratories notified by FSSAI.
Junior Food Analyst Examination: From 2017 onwards, FSSAI is conducting Junior Analyst Examination (JAE) to create a pool of talented young professionals who will be a part of nation-wide food safety testing network. The aim is to encourage fresh Post Graduates to have job prospects in Food industry and allied laboratories.
The appointment and responsibilities of a food analyst are outlined in Section 45 and 46 of Chapter VIII of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The specific duties of a Food Analyst are detailed in Section 2.1.4 (2) of the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011.
The qualification requirements for a food analyst are specified in the Gazette notification dated January 16, 2023, under sub-rule 2.1.4 of the Food Safety and Standards (First Amendment) Rules, 2022.
General Instructions for applying 9th FAE Practical Examination 2023
- The following candidates are eligible for applying 9th FAE Practical Examination:
- a. Candidates who have qualified the Computer Based Test of 9th FAE 2023.
- b. Pre-qualified Junior Analyst possessing not less than 3 years of experience in analysis in Food.
- Applications are to be submitted only through online mode. Applications submitted through any other mode will not be considered.

- The first, middle and last name should be mentioned correctly. Candidates should ensure that the spelling of the name given in the registration form is correct as the certificate will be issued accordingly, no further request for change in name or spelling will be entertained after issuance of certificate.
- The name of the candidate mentioned in the experience documents (uploading during submitting application) should be same as given in application form. In case of any change in the name, sufficient supporting documents (eg: Marriage certificate) should be uploaded during the time of application, otherwise the candidature shall be cancelled.
- For FAE and JAE candidates, not less than three years’ experience in analysis of food mandatory, for fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
- Experience of the candidate will be calculated only from the date of graduation (minimum academic qualification as prescribed for the FAE) till the closing date of application.
- The experience gained by the candidates before qualifying the minimum academic qualification as prescribed for the FAE and after the closing date of application will not be taken into consideration.
- Experience gained by the candidate during academic programme such as Post Graduate, Doctoral programme/SRF/JRF, etc will not be considered.
- Submission of documents at the time of application is considered to be final. Any further revisions or any requests with respect to resubmission of documents will not be entertained.
- No relaxation in the Educational Qualification and/or experience is permissible.
- Acceptance of the applications is subject to verification of supporting documents submitted by the candidate. If documents with respect to educational qualification and experience are found to being adequate, the application will be rejected.
- The examination fee should be paid only for accepted applications.
- Examination fee is to be paid only through online mode. Fee submitted through any other mode will not be accepted.
- The examination fee for appearing in 9th FAE practical examination is ₹1000/- and has to be paid only by pre-qualified JAE candidates.
- There shall be no refund of fee at any stage. In case fee is paid for one application more than once, then excess fee will be refunded.
- Choice of examination centre is available in the online form. However, examination centre may be changed subject to the availability of the candidates for the respective examination centre.
- Examination centre will be assigned on a first-come, first-served (FCFS) basis to applicants.
- Submission of application / fulfilment of eligibility conditions willnot confer any right on the candidate to be shortlisted / called for written test/ interview/issuance of certificate/job.
- All educational qualifications must have been obtained from recognized universities / Institutions in India or abroad.

- The “FSSAI” reserves the right to call for CBT/ Practical Exam only those candidates who in its opinion are most suitable for the certificate.
- The “FSSAI” also reserves the right to reject any or all the applications without assigning any reason thereof.
- The decision of The “FSSAI” in all matters regarding eligibility, shortlisting of candidates, conduct of Practical Exam and issuance of certificate will be final and binding on the applicants and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
- The “FSSAI” takes no responsibility for any delay in receipt in postal transit of certificates. The permanent address filled by the applicant will be considered for dispatch of the certificates after qualifying the practical examination of 9th FAE.
- Canvassing in any form will straightway disqualify the candidature.
- The examinations are not for providing employment by FSSAI.
