With the festival of Holi around the corner, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has announced the launch of a nationwide “Holi-Anti-Adulteration Drive—2025” to ensure food safety, quality, and prevent adulteration. The initiative aims to protect public health by addressing the increased risk of food adulteration during the festive season.
Rising Demand and the Risk of Adulteration
Holi is synonymous with a surge in the consumption of sweets, snacks, milk, and milk-based products such as ghee, khoya, and paneer. This increased demand often leads to unscrupulous practices where substandard or adulterated food products enter the market, posing serious health risks to consumers. Recognizing this threat, FSSAI has directed all States, Union Territories (UTs), and its regional offices to enhance vigilance and enforcement measures.
🔬 Offline Internship Program on NPD and shelf life enhancement (1 month Internship)
🖥️ Online Internship on Food processing, new product development, shelf life enhancement and regulatory compliances (45 days internship – 1 month internship + 15 days project work), Internship certificate and other food safety certificate will be provided.
Implementation of the Holi-Anti-Adulteration Drive
Under this special drive, enforcement officials—including Designated Officers, Food Safety Officers, and Central Food Safety Officers—will conduct extensive inspections and sampling of food products. The focus will be on high-risk commodities such as:
- Milk & Milk Products (Ghee, Khoya, Paneer)
- Sweets
- Snacks & Savories (Namkeen, Papad, Fryums)
- Edible Oils
- Cereals & Cereal Products
The specific food categories under scrutiny will vary based on regional eating patterns and prevalence.
Surveillance and Enforcement Actions
FSSAI has directed that Food Safety on Wheels (FSW) and Food Safety Officers be deployed at key locations such as border entry/exit points, market hotspots, and major food clusters. These mobile testing units will conduct on-the-spot testing to detect adulteration and take immediate enforcement action against violators.
Reporting and Compliance
All States, UTs, and FSSAI regional offices are required to submit a consolidated report on the drive’s findings by March 31, 2025, to the designated enforcement email (enforcement1@fssai.gov.in). This data will help assess the effectiveness of the drive and further strengthen food safety measures in the country.
Ensuring a Safe and Joyful Holi
The FSSAI urges consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food products to authorities. By implementing stringent monitoring and proactive enforcement, this initiative aims to uphold food safety standards and ensure that Holi celebrations remain joyous, safe, and free from food-related hazards.
Stay informed and celebrate responsibly this Holi 2025!
