The ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes (ICAR-NRCG), Pune, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indo-Fruits Development Council (IFDC), Pune, marking a significant step towards strengthening the grape value chain through collaborative capacity building. The agreement aims to benefit key stakeholders, including farmers, processors, and exporters, by leveraging research and development initiatives.
Strengthening the Grape Value Chain:
Dr. Kaushik Banerjee, Director of ICAR-NRCG, highlighted the ongoing research efforts at the institute and emphasized the role of scientific advancements in improving grape cultivation and processing. He noted that this collaboration would facilitate knowledge exchange, skill enhancement, and innovative solutions for the sector.
Shri Sopan Kanchan, Director of IFDC and President of the Grape Growers Federation of India, provided insights into the anticipated progress of this partnership. He underlined the importance of industry-academia collaborations in addressing challenges faced by grape farmers and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector.
IFDC: A Pioneering Initiative Under the SMART Project:
The Indo-Fruits Development Council (IFDC) is the first commodity stewardship council established under the ‘Balasaheb Thackeray Agribusiness & Rural Transformation (SMART) Project,’ an initiative supported by the Government of Maharashtra and the World Bank. The council aims to enhance the growth and development of specific commodities by integrating stakeholders across the value chain.
