South Korean multinational Lotte Wellfood Co. is set to expand its footprint in India by launching its iconic chocolate-coated biscuit stick, Pepero, in July 2025. This marks the first time Pepero will be produced outside of Korea, with manufacturing taking place at Lotte’s Haryana plant.
Pepero, celebrated as Korea’s leading branded confectionery snack, will be introduced to Indian consumers amid the rising popularity of K-food and K-pop culture in the country. Lotte Wellfood CEO Paul Yi emphasized the company’s commitment to diversifying its product range in India, stating, “We will explore other categories, such as snacks.”
In addition to the Pepero launch, Lotte has inaugurated a new ice cream manufacturing facility in Pune for its Havmor business. The company plans to invest $300 million over the next three to five years to enhance its capacity and supply chain infrastructure in India. This investment aligns with Lotte’s strategy to capitalize on the growing demand for confectionery and snack products in the Indian market.
Lotte’s expansion into the Indian snack segment reflects its broader ambition to leverage the increasing global appeal of Korean culture and cuisine. With the upcoming introduction of Pepero, Indian consumers can look forward to experiencing one of Korea’s most beloved snacks.
