McDonald’s to Set Up its First GCC (Global Capability Centre) in India

McDonald’s is making a significant move by establishing its first-ever Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India, reinforcing Hyderabad’s status as a global business and innovation hub. The fast-food giant has secured two floors at RMZ Nexity Tower 20, covering two lakh square feet, with a rental rate of Rs 90 per square foot. The facility is expected to commence operations by mid-2025.

This will be McDonald’s largest GCC outside the United States, designed to accommodate around 2,000 employees. The centre will focus on strengthening business functions, technology advancements, analytics, and AI-driven solutions to enhance McDonald’s global operations. The company has also officially registered ‘McDonald’s Capability Centre India Pvt Ltd’ with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, signaling its long-term commitment to India.

The Role of GCCs in Global Expansion:

Global Capability Centres (GCCs) serve as strategic offshore hubs for multinational corporations, providing a range of business and technological services. These centres help companies leverage talent, optimize costs, and drive innovation. McDonald’s GCC in Hyderabad aims to enhance operational efficiency and foster new technological advancements, benefiting the company’s worldwide network.

Hyderabad: A Growing Hub for Global Businesses:

Hyderabad continues to emerge as a top choice for global corporations due to its skilled workforce, robust infrastructure, and availability of premium office spaces. In Q2 2024 alone, the city accounted for 11% of the total 18.5 million square feet of office transactions across eight major Indian cities. GCCs played a crucial role, leasing over 50% of Hyderabad’s office space, demonstrating the city’s growing appeal for multinational companies.

With this new investment, McDonald’s joins the ranks of several global firms leveraging India’s technological expertise and cost advantages. The company’s decision to set up its GCC in Hyderabad underscores the city’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for global business operations.
