Nandini Launches First-of-Its-Kind Idli and Dosa Batter Blended with Whey Protein

Karnataka’s beloved dairy brand, Nandini, has unveiled its latest innovation: a ready-to-cook idli and dosa batter infused with 5% whey protein. This launch aims to transform traditional South Indian breakfasts into a more nutritionally balanced meal option, catering to health-conscious urban consumers.

The new product was officially launched at the Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, alongside ministers K Venkatesh, Krishna Byregowda, and Dinesh Gundu Rao. Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) Managing Director K Shivaswamy and Chairman Bheema Naik also graced the event.

Addressing Urban Dietary Challenges:

“With growing work pressure, urban consumers often lack time to prepare daily meals. Ready-to-cook options are increasingly in demand,” KMF stated. “Our whey protein-blended batter offers a healthier alternative to the traditional idli and dosa, which are typically high in carbohydrates but low in protein.” Whey protein, a byproduct of paneer production, has been integrated to enhance the nutritional profile of these breakfast staples.

Product Availability and Pricing:

The batter will be sold in two sizes:

  • 450g for Rs 40
  • 900g for Rs 80

Initially, the product will be available in Bengaluru, with plans to expand to other cities based on market performance.

Expansion Plans:

KMF’s Chairman, Bheema Naik, shared their ambition to sell 3-4 tonnes of batter daily in Bengaluru. Depending on its success, the federation plans to launch the product in Delhi and other regions where Nandini milk and milk products have already gained a foothold.

A Delayed Yet Significant Launch:

Originally scheduled for October, the launch was delayed until December. However, the timing aligns perfectly with the growing consumer demand for convenient and healthy food options during the festive season.

This launch positions Nandini as a pioneer in the ready-to-cook segment, combining traditional recipes with modern nutritional needs.

For health-conscious consumers and busy professionals, this innovation offers a blend of convenience and nutrition, setting a new benchmark for the South Indian food market.
