Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Maharashtra and Mumbai Police raided a place in Andheri East and arrested 6 people who was caught indulging in adulteration of milk by well-known brands. 325 litres of milk was destroyed after sample collection by FDA.
The FDA Maharashtra, along with Special Units of Mumbai Police, jointly conducted a raid on units indulging in milk tampering at Dharavi, last week.
The raid was conducted following complaints received that milk packets were being adulterated with water and sold in the local markets.
According to information given by FDA Maharashtra officials, the total stock seized and destroyed was 807 litre of adulterated milk, amounting to Rs 45,852.
FDA Maharashtra officials informed FnB News that the total number of samples of adulterated milk drawn was 10, and results of the tests conducted were as follows : Pasteurised Homogenised Toned Milk (Amul Taaza) (Tampered); Pasteurised Full Cream Milk (Tampered) (Gokul); Pasteurised Cow Milk (Gokul) (Tampered); Pasteurised Homogenised Toned Milk (Tampered)(Amul Taaza); Pasteurised Homogenised Toned Milk (Tampered)(Amul Taaza); Pasteurised Cow Milk (Tampered) (Gokul); Pasteurised & Homogenised Cow Milk (Tampered) (Good Morning); Pasteurised Homogenised Toned Milk (Tampered) (Amul Taaza); Pasteurised Homogenised Toned Milk(Tampered)(Amul Taaza); Pasteurised Full Cream Milk (Tampered) (Gokul).
Shashikant Kekare, Joint Commissioner (Food), FDA, Greater Mumbai, said, “Such types of raids are an ongoing process to help curb food adulteration.”
Six persons were held by the Special Units of Mumbai Police for tampering and sale of milk in local markets. An FIR has been launched against the accused persons at Shaunagar police station.
Officials stated that proceedings were being carried out by local FDA Maharashtra officials and Special Units of Mumbai Police.
