About us

Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) is researching various aspects of food science and technologies such as the development of convenience foods, preservation of foods, nutritional and biochemical evaluation, food safety, food packaging.

The Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL) was established on December 28, 1961 at Mysore primarily to cater to the strategic operational requirements of Services and to provide logistical support for food supplies and varied food challenges of the Indian Army, Navy, Air force and other Paramilitary Forces.

DFRL is the leader in convenience foods and packed ration developments in this country. Indigenous ingenuity is the hallmark of most of the technologies developed at DFRL.

It is currently researching various aspects of food science and technologies such as the development of convenience foods, preservation of foods, nutritional and biochemical evaluation, food safety, and food packaging.

DRDO DFRL is recruiting Graduate and Diploma candidates who are 2021 pass-outs, on a monthly stipend of Rs. 8000-9000 for an Apprenticeship.

Graduate Apprentice :

• Qualifications – B Tech in Food Tech/Food Processing/BSc in Food Science
  • No of opening – 3
  • Stipend Rs. – 9000/ month
  • Duration – Minimum 1 Year
• B. Tech in Bio-Technology/Bioinformatics/Bio Engineering/Biomedical Engineering
  • No of opening- 1
  • Stipend Rs. – 9000 /month
  • Duration – Minimum 1 Year

Diploma Apprentice

• Plastic Moulding Technology
  • No of opening – 1
  • Stipends – 8000/month
  • Duration – minimum 1 year
• Plastic Technology
  • No of opening – 1
  • Stipends – 8000/month
  • Duration – minimum 1 year
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • No of opening – 5
  • Stipends – 8000/month
  • Duration – minimum 1 year
• Diploma in food & Nutrition / Hostel Management /Catering Technology

  • Stipends – 8000/month
  • Duration – minimum 1 year
• Diploma in Computer Applications/Electronics & Communications Engineering/IT

  • Stipends – 8000/month

Selection Procedure.

Two-step selection will be made

1. Certificate Verification
2. Technical Interview

• Candidates must register their names at mhrdnats.gov.in.
• Candidates who passed the qualifying examination earlier than 2021 are not eligible.
• The period of training will be 12 months commencing from the execution of the contract of Apprenticeship.
