The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) along with the approval of all the competent authorities have come up with directions to ensure compliance in labeling of Multi Source Edible Vegetable Oil. As per FSS (Prohibition and Restriction on Sales) Regulations, 2011, ‘Multi-Source Edible Vegetable Oil shall not be sold under the common or generic name of the oil used in the blend but shall be sold as — Multi Source Edible Vegetable Oil.
Notably, FSS (Labeling and Display) Regulations, 2020 also stipulates that, ‘Every package containing an admixture of edible oils shall carry declaration immediately below its brand name/trade name on front of pack regarding the name and nature of each edible vegetable oil used in its preparation and their percentage by weight.
FSSAI has requested to check and verify compliance of labels of all such oil products/manufacturers under their jurisdiction and in case of any violations, FBOs may be immediately issued notices under intimation to FSSAI (HQ). An Action Taken report in the matter shall also be provided to FSSAl HQ by 1st June 2022 positively in the format attached here with.
