POSITION OVERVIEW

The Specification Specialist is responsible for developing raw material, ingredients, packaging, and finished product specifications. They will work with vendors and internal departments to gather the necessary information and will communicate specification changes. 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Work with a cross functional team to ensure specifications are complete, accurate, consistent, and are released in a timely fashion
  • Gather information from internal departments and external vendors to create specifications
  • Ensure the Specification is set up as per local Regulations and Food Safety Policies of General Mills – Ingredients, Allergens, Test Methods, Weights, Date Coding, Standard of Identity, Physical, Chemical & Microbiological Properties
  • Oversees collision management by anticipating and effectively prioritizing against changing business demands
  • Serve as one point of contact for all specification needs and lead early management activities 
  • Communicate changes to specification to both internal and external customers
  • Maintain accuracy and complete updates of all specifications
  • Maintain procedures for the creation and distribution of specifications
  • Provide just-in-time training to R&D team members on relevant specification topics
  • Summarize and report project activity to the business teams
  • Provide support in the preparation, review, and submission of required documentation to government agencies as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition or related field
  • Experience in the food industry and product specifications
  • In-depth understanding of product commercialization process from product design to manufacturing
  • Comfortable working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience writing technical specifications
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Self-directed, motivated and good time management
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and take action
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, Office 365, and SharePoint
